Yuichiro Kawamura

 

Yuichiro Kawamura, a member of IP*SEVA, is an international intellectual property expert based in Los Angeles, California. He holds a bachelor of laws degree from the Tohoku Gakuin University.
Prior to joining to IPSEVA in 2023, Mr. Kawamura was Senior Vice President of Honda Patents and Technologies North America LLC and Vice President of American Honda Motor Co. Inc. in Los Angeles California, where his responsibilities included IP strategy development, patent portfolio management, patent litigation management as well managing technology transfer licensing for Honda group companies in US, Canada and Mexico. From 2010 to 2013, he was the global head of the Intellectual Property Division of Honda Motor Co. Ltd. In Tokyo, Japan, where he managed global intellectual property activities of Honda Group companies. He spent more than 25 years at Honda R&D where one of his responsibilities was automotive technology developments through partnership with third parties such as universities, research institutes, startup companies and operating companies. His unique achievements outside of the automotive field were setting up GE Honda Aero Engines LLC a joint venture company in the US that manufactures turbo fan engines for business jets. He also engaged in establishing Honda Aircraft Company, Inc. that manufactures Honda Jets in North Carolina, US.

He served as a Managing Director/Vice President for the Japan Intellectual Property Association (JIPA), Tokyo Japan between 2008 – 2013, where he had a lead role in the Green Technology Package Program. He was a delegate from JIPA to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to propose an idea to establish a green technology database service for accelerating green technology development. WIPO and JIPA worked together to officially launch WIPO GREEN in 2013.

He is a frequent speaker on IP Strategy and Green Technology/IP Licensing, including addressing the WIPO 6th Global Congress, the Global Forum on the Knowledge Economy of OECD, the IPRC Conference organized by NIPO (Norwegian Intellectual Property Office) , the WIPO Asian IP Expert Conference, the World Bank IP Conference organized by United Nations Global Compact committee, the Green Growth Seminar organized by the South Africa Embassy/UNU-IAS in Tokyo, the Global Compact Conference, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the IPBC Japan, Auto IP USA by IAM, the Federal Circuit Bench and Bar Conference organized by US Chamber of Commerce, Licensing Executive Society US, and many others.
